03 / URGES & CHOICE

The moment before
the next choice.

Sometimes an urge offers quick relief, excitement, escape, or connection. We can examine that moment honestly and work toward responses that fit what you want for your life.

I work with adults concerned about recurring behaviors involving sex, pornography, alcohol, substances, online habits, or other impulses when those behaviors feel difficult to manage or conflict with their goals. We focus on the behavior and its effects, without shaming you or assuming that a sexual interest or consensual relationship structure is itself a problem.

WHAT YOU MIGHT NOTICE

There is room to
start here.

People experience this in different ways. You may recognize one of these moments, or you may bring something entirely different.

  • A familiar urge arrives after stress, loneliness, boredom, or conflict.
  • You decide to do something differently, then find yourself repeating the pattern.
  • A behavior offers short-term relief but creates tension with a partner, at work, or within yourself.
  • Shame makes it harder to talk openly about what happened.

THE ORANGE GLOW LENS

From a moment
to a practice.

A small pause can give us useful information. The example below is educational and would be tailored to you.

01What happens

After a difficult day, you find yourself reaching for a familiar online habit and notice the feeling of urgency.

02What may be underneath

We ask what happened just before, what the behavior seems to promise, and whether you are looking for relief, stimulation, comfort, or something else.

03A response to try

You might name the urge, give yourself a brief pause, and choose one next action that matches the need you identified. The urge does not have to disappear for the step to matter.

04What we review

We look at what happened before and after, what was useful, and where the plan needs to change. The point is to learn from the pattern, not to score yourself.

These are examples of how we might work together, not a personal assessment. Your needs and goals shape the approach.

HOW WE WORK

Insight with
something to use.

You can speak directly with me about sensitive behavior. We can explore triggers, beliefs, accountability, and practical choices while respecting your values, relationships, and circumstances.

Our work is active: we start with what is happening, identify recurring patterns, practice responses between sessions when appropriate, and review what you notice in daily life and in how you feel. We adjust as we learn what fits. Mindfulness, gratitude, or affirmations can be optional tools if they fit your goals.
